How to Use the OIBP Index in Your Buying Decisions
Detailed practical guide to OIBP — how to read the data and make smarter buying decisions.
01What Is the OIBP Index?
OIBP — Oud Index Benchmark Price — is the reference index calculated by Oud Index for each oud variety based on verified market data from multiple sources. Updated weekly. Used as a reference price for comparison — not necessarily a selling price.
02How to Read the Index?
The index gives three figures for each variety: the Median price, the Lower Range, and the Upper Range. Understanding these three figures is the key to using the index correctly.
03Practical Application — 3 Real Scenarios
Scenario 1: merchant offers Hindi Amfal at SAR 120/gram. OIBP: SAR 200-400/gram. Conclusion: price far below lower limit — fraud risk or very low quality. Scenario 2: SAR 300/gram — within range, reasonable. Scenario 3: SAR 600/gram — above range, request justification.
04Index Limits — What OIBP Cannot Do
OIBP is a price reference — not a guarantee. It does not evaluate the quality of a specific piece. Does not determine authenticity. Does not guarantee the seller will honor the price. It is a support tool that reduces error — but independent inspection has no substitute.
