العود ليس خشباً عادياً. هو خشب عطري نادر يتشكّل داخل أشجار من جنس Aquilaria عند إصابتها بفطر طبيعي يُسمى Phialophora. هذه الإصابة تدفع الشجرة لإنتاج راتنج داكن كثيف ردّاً دفاعياً — وهذا الراتنج هو ما يُعطي العود رائحته الاستثنائية. من ٢٠٠ شجرة أكيلاريا، واحدة فقط في المتوسط تُنتج العود.Oud is not ordinary wood. It is a rare aromatic wood formed inside Aquilaria trees when infected by a natural fungus called Phialophora. This infection causes the tree to produce a dense dark resin as a defensive response — and this resin is what gives oud its exceptional scent. Of 200 Aquilaria trees, on average only one produces oud.
